24 hours until CES 2012!

The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicks off this week in Las Vegas. I will be attending for my first time and I’m nothing short of excited. Anyone who has even the slightest geek in them knows this is the biggest electronics show in the world. CES is filled with everything electronic like TVs, phones, computers, cameras, and tablets. If you do a quick search on Google or twitter for CES you find and endless stream of leaks, expectations and hopes for this year. Here are some of the leaks that I’m looking forward to checking out:

  • Toshiba’s 55-inch Glasses-less 3-D TV. They are the pioneer for this upcoming technology bringing 3-D video to your home without the need for those annoying glasses. This will be headed to theUSthe first quarter of year with a cool $10,000 price tag.

  • LG’s 55-inch OLED TV. This thing is only 4 mm thin and weighs in at about 7.5 kg. It also has almost no border so if you played a video of a pool I guess it would be an infinite pool? This same TV is also boasting a new 4 Color Pixels technology that is sure to impress the videophile in everyone.

  • Intel is finally entering the mobile chip market with their new Medfield design. They already have a partnership with LG and have built an Android phone. Currently this and their mock-up tablets aren’t in production, but once they have the power consumption issue handled they are sure to become a force to be reckoned with.

  • Game Genie will actually be making a come back. They are going to be announcing the return of the Game Genie for the PS3 and PS Portable. They are also creating a downloadable version for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.

This is only a small taste of what is to come at CES 2012. I plan to blog about as much as I can from my Xoom so make sure you stay tuned. You can follow GMachine on facebook  and twitter as well. I can not wait, I have less than 24 hours until I enter the gates of gadget paradise in Las Vegas and bathe in the electronic glory that is CES. Let us not forget that since this is in Las Vegas, the evenings will be filled with plenty of hookers and blow. –Greg

Android is officially coming to AT&T!

AT&T has officially announced that it will be bringing Android smart phones to it’s network. They have a splash page at www.att.com/androidthat tells a little bit about what they have planned. The officially announced the Dell Mini3 and the Motorola (Backflip) which we had heard rumors about for quite a while. They have also announced 3 Android smart phones coming from HTC, which is 1 of the leaders in Android devices. In the press release they also said they are releasing a new AT&T SDK to help developers more easily and quickly develope apps for these devices. They also go on to say that they are “Taking the AT&T Developer Program to the Next Level”, by adding some new developer resources. I’d have to say AT&T has stepped up and it looks like they are going to knock this out of the park. They already have the “Fastest 3G Network” and this was even proved real world by Gizmodo. Now, with the addition of Android they will continue to be the leader in wireless mobile technology. I’m happy to say that I’m still with AT&T and will now not likely be leaving them anytime soon. Good show AT&T, good show! -Greg

Could Nexus One also be coming to AT&T?

The Nexus One has probably been the single largest phone craze that hasn’t been released. Google has created quite a frenzy with what once called imaginary or possible hoax. It is now official, for the most part, that Google phone does exist and will become officially official at the CES in just a few days. I hadn’t been so much sucked into the Nexus One craze until now, reports say that the Nexus One may be releasing a 2nd version of the phone. This version would be unlocked and have support for AT&T’s 3G band. That’s right folks it could also be available for AT&T. Of course this is only a rumor at this point, but in on 2 days well know more. Now I’m still not all that excited about the Nexus One in general, that’s because the phone still isn’t anything more special that the next. The Nexus One did make its way to  Engadget and they said its not much faster than the Motorola Droid, doesn’t support multi-touch, no physical keyboard. The only reason I’m even getting close to exited is the possibility that it makes it to AT&T. I already have my fingers crossed for the Motorola Android phone (it’s not the ‘Droid’) that maybe making it’s way to AT&T, now I’ve crossed even more for the Nexus One. Lets all hold hands and pray that at least 1 of these Android phones will be announced on AT&T! -Greg

Here is Engadget’s exclusive one their very own Nexus One.

Acer joining the mobile Android market.

Looks like Acer will be joining the mobile Android market with a lot more mobile phones starting in 2010. Acer has already entered the mobile market this year with 10 devices, 9 running Windows Mobile OS and now an Android. Now they have plans to start building phones using the Android mobile OS. “There is definitely momentum behind Android. The pace is faster than most would have anticipated one year ago,”. Here is an article by Engadget that goes more into detail about the Acer Liquid, Acer’s Android phone. I talked about Dell entering the mobile market with their first model in China just recently, looks like the larger computer companies are all starting to get into the mobile markets. I wonder if we will see IBM enter the race, I haven’t heard anything, I’m just saying it would be something to see that! – Greg
