Why Google's phone hasn't got me excited.

Google’s new phone “Nexus” hasn’t got me excited, I’ll let you in on why. If you been keeping tabs on my blog you’ve noticed that I have been following the Android mobile OS and the phones that are running it pretty well. You also may have noticed that I’ve slowed down a bit on posting every single phone as they pop into the spot light. Why, because not every phone is doing something different or stands apart from the previous. The perfect example of this is Google’s phone “Nexus”. Why is everyone flipping out over something that isn’t doing anything groundbreaking. The Nexus has slowly started to surface and from what I’ve read, you can quote me on this, WHOOPIDY-DOO! It’s just another HTC phone running Android. What you don’t believe me, read this article from GIZMODO, it helps you come back down to earth. So until the phone has officially released its specs and shows something magical, I will keep it in the closet with the last 10 Android phones that have surfaced I haven’t wrote about. Google, slap your new phone, Nexus, on AT&T’s network and then I’ll jump around singing I’m a little tea-pot. – Greg

AT&T your killing me!

I’ve been on the Android bus for quite a while. I’ve played with the 1.5 SDK, built a little app for it. I’ve watched as Motorola’s Droid came to life and charged the world like the beaches of Normandy. I now have subscribed to several Android blogs and get dozens of emails a day about Android this and Android that. I’ve become jealous of a few people I know who have some type of Android device. It’s even got as bad as people giving me trouble about them Few phones have hit the FCC with the possibility that they me be headed for AT&T’s network in the US, but I’ve seen nothing. Dell is still in my heart with the hopes that the phone they are now selling in China will sometime in the near future make it to the states. When is AT&T going to accept the reality that Android is not a fad, its not going to die, its going to make them millions and I NEED ONE!!!  I hate you AT&T, I hate you. -Greg

Dell, Android, and AT&T together in early 2010!

So as I’ve read and talked about several times now, it looks as if its now FACT that Dell is entering the US mobile market with the Android OS on is phone and its headed for AT&T. Which is outstanding news for AT&T customers, more importantly ME! Seems that they already have a phone in the Chinese market. The Dell Mini 3iX, will be revamped and cramed pack before hitting the US shores by early 2010. Just so happens that my birthday and available upgrade dates are both in January, coincidence? I think not! -Greg

Here are some pictures of the Chinese version..

AT&T MicroCell MicroSite goes live; MicroLaunch imminent

Genius, land lines are the 1 thing that pretty much any can get in any part of the country. This gives everyone in lesser technically advanced parts of the country to catch up. Of course AT&T is going to make a few extra dollars, but hey I’m sure most people will agree that it’s a lot better than waiting for new tower to go up. Just wish I would have thought of it first.. -Greg

microcell-site

The advent of femtocells is nothing short of fantastic. Think about it: A carrier has terrible service where you live or work, so what do you do about it? You get a device called a femtocell that will let you use your land-based broadband internet connection (that you pay another company for) to make calls and use data on your phone. Of course you don’t get a discount for using land-based broadband instead of your carrier’s cellular network, but you just mutter under your breath and fork over the cash anyway. The best part? Word on the street suggests AT&T — the final among the big four to bring a femtocell solution to market – will be charging $20 per month for the privilege of using another company’s land-based network as a band-aid for its crappy cell coverage in your area. Awesomeness. For those dying to fit into this scenario, the MicroSite is now live and a launch is imminent.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
