Qualcomm was showing off their new S4 Snapdragon Processor in both mobile devices and TVs, that’s right TVs. Here we see this processor converting A.R. (augmented reality) from 2D to 3D before sending over HDMI to the TV. You can se how he has the mobile phone pointed at the flat map played on the table there and it’s turned into a 3D barrel shooting game on the TV. It really was pretty cool, no lag, and a crisp 3D image.

Here is a shot of the upcoming TV that uses the S4 processor technology. They have entered a partnership agreement with Lenova to build these TVs.

Nvidia had a pretty cool racing demo setup. Complete with 3 monitors all of which displayed 3D. The cockpit was also hydraulic and moved with the game. Full pedal and stock controls as well.

The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicks off this week in Las Vegas. I will be attending for my first time and I’m nothing short of excited. Anyone who has even the slightest geek in them knows this is the biggest electronics show in the world. CES is filled with everything electronic like TVs, phones, computers, cameras, and tablets. If you do a quick search on Google or twitter for CES you find and endless stream of leaks, expectations and hopes for this year. Here are some of the leaks that I’m looking forward to checking out:

• Toshiba’s 55-inch Glasses-less 3-D TV. They are the pioneer for this upcoming technology bringing 3-D video to your home without the need for those annoying glasses. This will be headed to theUSthe first quarter of year with a cool $10,000 price tag.

• LG’s 55-inch OLED TV. This thing is only 4 mm thin and weighs in at about 7.5 kg. It also has almost no border so if you played a video of a pool I guess it would be an infinite pool? This same TV is also boasting a new 4 Color Pixels technology that is sure to impress the videophile in everyone.

• Intel is finally entering the mobile chip market with their new Medfield design. They already have a partnership with LG and have built an Android phone. Currently this and their mock-up tablets aren’t in production, but once they have the power consumption issue handled they are sure to become a force to be reckoned with.

• Game Genie will actually be making a come back. They are going to be announcing the return of the Game Genie for the PS3 and PS Portable. They are also creating a downloadable version for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.

That’s right Google is celebrating 10 billion Android Market downloads by offering 10 apps for just $.10 each. That’s 10 apps for a buck for those of you counting on your fingers right now. Google is going to keep this promotion going for the next 10 days with a different 10 apps each day. Larry Laffer will return in HD and even a mobile format thanks to Replay Games. The Leisure Suit Larry Series was easily one of my favorites on a PC back in the day. Larry was brought back to life in 2003 for a couple new adventures without the help of the original creator Al Lowe. Now once again Larry and the entire series will return with new life. Replay Games obtained the rights to the franchise and plans to re-release the originals in HD and also create new ones. They have also agreed to team up with the original creator Al Lowe, which should make for an added classic Larry touch.
According to EGM “The first project under the agreement will be an HD re-mastered version of the original, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, on every platform Replay can figure out how to port it onto, including: Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, XBLA, PSN, On-Live, Steam.”
Needless to say I’m very excited about this and will be first in line to grab the first release. –Greg

Sony is preparing to release a new firmware upgrade in June which will bring 3D to the PS3. Apparently the first update will only work on PSN (PlayStation Network) titles. Following that will be an update for Blu-ray, which would allow games and movies alike the 3D option. Folks who purchase Sony’s HX803 3D TV will get a bundle of PS3 3D games with it. You’ll still have to fork out for the 3D glasses, so maybe you should have your friends bring their own.  On a side note, don’t expect anything like this on your Xbox, ever. -Greg
