Kenny Chesney Scores Three CMA Nominations

When Kenny Chesney says “Obviously, I want to win Entertainer. But looking at all of this, thinking about everything we’ve been, everything we’ve seen and done, in some ways I’ve already won because look at the memories we made. To me, that’s the best thing we can do: give the fans music and memories worth remembering.” He’s got plenty of reason to say it!  His music, shows, and style is what captures me and the millions of other fans, this combined gives everyone great memories and I can’t wait to make more! -Greg

When the CMA nominations were announced yesterday, Kenny walked away with nods for Entertainer, Male Vocalist and Vocal Event with good friend Mac McAnally for their multiple week #1 “Down The Road.” “It’s funny,” admitted the man who’s also won the CMA Album of the Year for When the Sun Goes Down, “but the more you do this, the more those nominations mean. You realize what it takes to receive an honor like this – especially from your peers who make it happen and know the work and commitment it takes. You’ve got to be humbled knowing what you do is recognized. For me, the last 8 years has been about how do we make it mean more, give people all the things I wanted from the artists I loved growing up… so that when they look back, this music, these nights are something they’re gonna be proud to remember their youth by.” “Obviously, I want to win Entertainer. But looking at all of this, thinking about everything we’ve been, everything we’ve seen and done, in some ways I’ve already won because look at the memories we made. To me, that’s the best thing we can do: give the fans music and memories worth remembering.”

Brad Paisley Leads List of CMA Nominees

Brad Paisley is one of my big country favorites! He has a lot of great songs and puts on a very good show. He also has me starring in his music video “Ticks”! Ok, I’m not starring in it, but I’m in the crowd couple rows backs from him. Go ahead and watch it, you’ll see me! Anyway, I’m not surprised that he has the lead in nominations; he’s an all around great entertainer. This brings me to good ‘ole Kenny Chesney. Now he may not have as many nominations as Brad, but of the 3 he does have, 1 of them is for Entertainer of the Year. Kenny is no stranger to EOTY; he won it the last 4 years in a row. I’m pretty sure that we’re going to be seeing a 5-peat from Kenny. I was rather disappointed that he didn’t come to St. Louis, MO this year, but I made it to his show in Chicago and I must say, he just keeps putting on a better show every year!  Lady Antebellum, Montgomery Gentry, Miranda Lambert, Sugarland, and finally Kenny Chesney made for a 7 hour, almost Festival like concert. AWESOME! He is also up for Male Vocalist and Musical Event for “Down the Road” w/ Mac McAnally.  -Greg

With six nominations, Brad Paisley emerged as the frontrunner when the nominees for the 43rd annual CMA Awards were announced Wednesday (Sept. 9) in New York and Nashville. Keith Urban, Jamey Johnson, George Strait, Taylor Swift and Zac Brown each received four nominations.

Darius Rucker and Lee Ann Womack announced the final nominees in five of the 12 categories during a telecast Good Morning America at the ABC News studios in New York’s Times Square. Randy Houser announced the candidates in the other categories at CMT’s studios in Nashville on Insider Special Edition: 2009 CMA Awards Nominations, hosted by CMT personalities Cody Alan and Alecia Davis.

Rucker, once primarily known as the lead vocalist for Hootie & the Blowfish, picked up his first CMA nominations as a solo country artist. He’s nominated in the new artist and male vocalist categories. Womack and Strait share a nomination for musical event of the year for “Everything but Quits,” a duet featured on her Call Me Crazy album.

In addition to nominations for entertainer of the year and male vocalist, Paisley received an album of the year nomination for American Saturday Night and single and song of the year nominations for “Then,” the single he co-wrote with Chris DuBois and Ashley Gorley. Paisley’s collaboration with Keith Urban on “Start a Band” netted a music video of the year nomination for them and director Jim Shea.

Urban’s other nominations include entertainer of the year, male vocalist and album of the year (for Defying Gravity). Urban could potentially win a second trophy in the album of the year category for co-producing the project with Dann Huff.

Strait also received nominations for entertainer of the year and male vocalist, along with music video of the year for “Troubadour,” directed by Trey Fanjoy. Strait and Womack won the CMA’s musical event honor in 2005 for their collaboration on “Good News, Bad News.”

Swift’s four nominations include her first for the coveted entertainer of the year prize. She is also nominated for female vocalist and music video of the year (the latter for “Love Story,” directed by Fanjoy.) Aside from an artist nomination in the album of the year field, Swift could receive a second trophy for co-producing Fearless with Nathan Chapman.

Johnson, a new artist nominee, is also up for single and song of the year for “In Color” and album of the year for That Lonesome Song. He won a CMA song of the year award in 2007 for his work with co-writers Bill Anderson and Buddy Cannon on Strait’s hit, “Give It Away.”

Brown received his first CMA nominations Wednesday. The Zac Brown Band is included in the new artist and vocal group categories. The band’s hit single, “Chicken Fried,” is nominated for single of the year, and Brown garnered an extra nomination for co-writing the song with Wyatt Durrette.

This year’s CMA Awards will be broadcast live Nov. 11 from Nashville’s Sommet Center. Paisley and Carrie Underwood will return for a second year to host the ABC telecast.

Tobacco seen killing six million people next year

I don’t need to tell you smokings bad for you. I don’t need to tell you that smoking doesn’t make you look cool. I don’t need to tell you that smoking stinks and makes you smell. I don’t need to tell you that your wasting your money on something that is actually killing you. I was a smoker and I quit, so you can too. It maybe tough, it maybe a battle with yourself, or with others enabling you, who cares, just quit smoking. You’ll save money, you’ll look, feel, and even smell better! You’ll make those you love around you a little happier. You’ll live a little longer, you’ll set a better example for those that look up to you. Bet you can think of other reasons you should quit. So why do you keep smoking? -Greg

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Tobacco use will kill 6 million people next year from cancer, heart disease, emphysema and a range of other ills, global cancer experts said in a report issued on Tuesday.

The new Tobacco Atlas from the World Lung Foundation and the American Cancer Society estimates that tobacco use costs the global economy $500 billion a year in direct medical expenses, lost productivity and environmental harm.

“Tobacco’s total economic costs reduce national wealth in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) by as much as 3.6 percent,” the report reads.

“Tobacco accounts for one out of every 10 deaths worldwide and will claim 5.5 million lives this year alone,” the report said. If current trends hold, by 2020, the number will grow to an estimated 7 million and top 8 million by 2030.

Last week the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on launched a tobacco center to oversee cigarettes and other related products, after winning the power to do so from Congress in June. On Tuesday it set up a committee of advisers to help guide it.

Over the past four decades, smoking rates have declined in rich countries like the United States, Britain and Japan while rising in much of the developing world, according to the nonprofit research and advocacy organizations.

Some other findings from the report, available at http://www.tobaccoatlas.org/:

* 1 billion men smoke — 35 percent of men in rich countries and 50 percent of men in developing countries.

* About 250 million women smoke daily — 22 percent of women in developed countries and 9 percent of women in developing countries.

* Smoking rates among women are either stable or increasing in several southern, central and eastern European countries.

* The risk of dying from lung cancer is more than 23 times higher for men who smoke than for nonsmokers and 13 times higher for women smokers.

* Tobacco kills one-third to one-half of those who smoke. Smokers die an average of 15 years earlier than nonsmokers.

* Nearly 60 percent of Chinese men smoke and China consumes more than 37 percent of the world’s cigarettes.

* 50 million Chinese children, mostly boys, will die prematurely from tobacco-related diseases.

* Tobacco use will eventually kill 250 million of today’s teenagers and children.

* Nearly one-quarter of young people who smoke tried their first cigarette before the age of 10.

* Occupational exposure to secondhand smoke kills 200,000 workers every year.

“One hundred million people were killed by tobacco in the 20th century. Unless effective measures are implemented to prevent young people from smoking and to help current smokers quit, tobacco will kill 1 billion people in the 21st century,” the report predicts.

China by far leads the world in cigarette production followed by the United States, Russia and Japan.

Publicly traded cigarette makers include Altria Group Inc’s Philip Morris unit, Reynolds American Inc’s R.J. Reynolds Tobacco. Lorillard Inc’s Lorillard Tobacco Co and Star Scientific Inc.

Woman says Chesney stole her memory card

Yeah, because Kenny is secretly your stalker lady. Wait, even better he took the memory card to a flea market and traded it for a headlight for his 89 Escort. Geez.. I tell you one thing for sure, mission accomplished. I’m nearly positive that she is only saying this because she wanted to get in the headlines, again mission accomplished. Although, a sweeter twist would be that she was there with someone she wasn’t supposed to be. Maybe she just came up with some ridiculous, “Kenny stole my memory card” story to cover her own tracks. Haha, now doesn’t that make for a much more believable story? -Greg

BOSTON, Aug. 21 (UPI) — A woman claims country music star Kenny Chesney snatched her camera’s memory card as she was taking pictures during a concert in Foxborough, Mass.

“(Chesney) was like a person in front of me and he reached down, grabs the camera, shuts it, goes down the walkway and throws it on the stage,” Susan Mazar told WCVB-TV, Boston.

Mazar said her camera was returned to her, but the memory card, containing photos from her family vacation, was missing.

Although video cameras are banned at Gillette Stadium, the concert’s venue, Mazar insisted to NewsCenter 5 she was only taking still pictures of Saturday’s gig.

EXCLUSIVE: Kenny Chesney Launches Laidback Clothing Line

It’s no secret I’m a HUGE Kenny Chesney fan, his tropical-country style is nothing short of awesome. I’m sometimes jealous of his videos, just wishing I could live that Caribbean life. I like his idea of trying to give the fans a taste of that through is new clothing line. Still, looks like as would be expected they are going to be a bit higher priced. $35 for a t-shirt is not what I would expect to be paying for a t-shirt in the Caribbean carefree life style. Never the less I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting a few pieces from this new line. -Greg

For Kenny Chesney (and his fans), “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” isn’t just a song, it’s a way of life. And now the country star is launching a clothing line, Blue Chair Bay, that captures his laidback style. The pieces — for men and women — are designed to look and feel like “that favorite T-shirt that you’ve washed a lot that is kind of sun bleached… your favorite khakis, and your shirt that you’ve had forever,” he tells PEOPLE. (Naturally, there are worn-in baseball caps, too.) Chesney was so involved in the design process that he even name-checks friends on some of the items. “I’ve got a shirt that says “Bob’s Charter” and Bob is a buddy of mine that’s been living in the islands for a long time.” Sure, not everyone can live in the Caribbean like Chesney, but he hopes his new mid-priced line (ranging from $35 for a T-shirt to $72 for khakis) — which is currently being sold at Fast Buck Freddies in Key West, Ocean Eddie’s Resort Wear in Gulf Shores, Ala., and Levy’s in Nashville — prompts people to use their imagination. “Blue Chair Bay is kind of like the place we’d all like to go if we had no obligations or nowhere to be,” he says, “and that’s kind of what I want this clothing line to represent. These are the clothes I would pack to go to this place.”

Toby Keith – "American Ride"

There has been quite the buzz surrounding Toby Keith’s new video “American Ride”. Now I’m not to partial to Toby, but this one I really liked. I’d have to say I really enjoy it when superstars say things I say and would love to say to the public. Seriously he didn’t really even say or do anything bad, just spoke his mind and did it like any American should, honestly! I love it and had to throw it up so you can get a taste if you haven’t already. Enjoy.. -Greg

More Than 100 People Arrested at Kenny Chesney’s Stadium Concert – Anyone who has had the priveledge to see Kenny out at Verizon knows that it IS a party. It’s all fun until somebody gets arrested.

At least 114 people were arrested Saturday (Aug. 15) at Kenny Chesney’s concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., near Boston. According to the Boston Globe, another 228 were taken into protective custody at the New England Country Music Festival. Most of the offenses involved underage drinking. The police crackdown stemmed from Chesney’s concert there last year when two women were killed in an automobile accident after a day of tailgating on the parking lot. Neither of the victims had tickets to the concert. Chesney’s shows at Gillette Stadium have sold out for five consecutive years. Saturday’s concert also featured Sugarland, Montgomery Gentry and Miranda Lambert. More than 56,000 people attended the event.
